Event Description

The Canadian Centre for Gender & Sexual Diversity, in partnership with the Newfoundland & Labrador English School District, will provide this GSA Forum for local high school students in the central region at Exploits Valley High School (392 Grenfell Heights, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL A2A 2J2).

We understand the importance of providing knowledge, tools and skills for youth to navigate through their secondary school experiences. Having access to workshops that provide education on inclusivity can help students normalize their feelings, identities and relationships. We will cover topics such as 2SLGBTQ+ Terminology, Transgender Inclusivity,  Healthy Relationships and Consent, GSA Leadership, and other various topics that cover the intersection of identities in the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

These events will also include workshops specifically for educators, helping them to continue providing an inclusive learning environment for all students.

If you have any questions please contact Amanda Myerson, National Conference Coordinator, by email at [email protected] or by phone at (613) 400-1875.

Amanda has met students from all over the country who lead strong GSAs and can share what has been successful for other groups in a variety of communities.

  • During the 2SLGBTQ+ history workshop, students will be introduced to pivotal moments of resistance and activism in queer Canadian history. From the Brunswick Four, to the We Demand protest, to the first Trans March, the workshop zones offer an opportunity to independently explore and discuss events and people that have helped shaped our society and reality today.

We will do some activities to start youth on thinking about the ways they can impact the world around them by advocating for themselves and how to become leaders especially if they cannot find those leaders already present in their communities.
